How DealNews ranks and checks deals
Every live deal gets a deal score from 0 to 100, built only from the data we have about it. The score decides the order of our lists; it is shown on every deal with its label: Excellent, Great, Good or Fair.
The deal score
- Savings (0–40 points): How much you save against a real M.R.P. from the store, or the discount as listed.
- Price confidence (0–20 points): Whether the price was confirmed by the store or typed in by our editors.
- Freshness (0–15 points): How recently the deal was added or its price was checked.
- Merchant (0–10 points): The store selling it.
- Interest (0–10 points): How many people opened the deal recently.
- Completeness (0–5 points): Whether the listing has a price, an image, a store and a description.
- Reported problems (−25 points): when users report that a deal is expired, its price changed or its link is broken.
How we check prices
- Price confirmed by the store: the price came from the store, with the time we last checked it.
- Listed by our editors: the price and discount were entered by our team; a discount we can't confirm is shown as “(as listed)”.
- Reported: several users reported a problem recently, so check before you buy.
Buy now or wait
Fixed rules over the prices we recorded; the first that matches decides. Fewer than 5 prices or under 14 days tracked: not enough data. Today within 2% of the lowest we recorded: buy now. At least 8% below the median: good price. A relevant sale announced to start within 30 days and today more than 5% above the lowest: consider waiting. Otherwise: fair price. Confidence is high with 20 prices over 60 days, medium with 10 over 30 days, otherwise low. It is never a prediction or a guarantee.
The price tracker
Paste a product link on the price tracker and we record its price from the store's own data every 6 to 24 hours. A check that fails records nothing, never a guess.
What we never do
- Invent an M.R.P. or a discount.
- Claim a “lowest ever” price without a recorded price history.
- Show countdowns without a real expiry date.
- Show ratings we don't have.
Affiliate links
“View deal” links go through dealnews.in/go/… to the store. Some are affiliate links: we may earn a commission when you buy, at no extra cost to you. Commissions are not a factor in the deal score.
