One of the most common household appliances – microwaves helps us with everything, from reheating leftover food to boiling water for tea. Convenient, they do get dirty quickly from splatters of food, grease, and liquids that spill over time. Harmful bacteria and germs can build up and stains and unpleasant odors the longer your microwave goes unwashed.
If you are looking for ways to deodorize the microwave, lemons are one of the best options. Add half a lemon to some water in a bowl and place it inside the microwave for two or three minutes to remove foul smells. Leave the mixture in the microwave for a few hours. The steam will absorb the odors and smell like new. You can repeat the process whenever you want. Another method is to use a piece of lemon in the microwave and wipe the interior with a paper towel.
You can mix baking soda and water in a microwave-safe bowl for a more natural solution. To make a deodorizing mixture, mix two tablespoons of baking soda with one cup of water. There are other effective ways to deodorize the microwave. You can sprinkle baking soda on the inside of the microwave and heat it for twenty to thirty seconds. It will remove odors and also disinfect the microwave. It will also make it safe for you to cook in it. Soak a sponge in vinegar and baking soda to deodorize the microwave.
You can use rubbing alcohol to deodorize the microwave. You can apply the rubbing alcohol on the interior and exterior surfaces of the microwave. When it is clean, you can wipe it with a paper towel.
To reduce the smell, you can also use a degreaser to get rid of grease. Simple green all-purpose cleaner and degreaser are safe to use in the microwave. Follow the instructions carefully. Then, you can try removing the smell from the microwave.
One of the most common ways to deodorize the microwave is to use Apple cider vinegar. It is a great cleaning agent and is effective for deodorizing the microwave. To use it, mix 3 tbsp of vinegar with 1 cup of water. The microwave will become steamy, and the vinegar will absorb the accumulated stench. Then, you can wipe out the microwave and leave the vinegar inside the microwave to freshen up.
To remove the burnt smell from microwaves:
- Take one cup of water and sprinkle your favourite spice like cinnamon or add several vanilla or lemon extract drops.
- Bring to a boil and let it sit for a few hours to cool down.
- Leave the door open to further air it out.
Another method is to pour some lemon essential oil on a cloth and microwave it for two minutes. Leave the fabric inside for a few mins and then wipe the whole microwave clean.
Household disinfectant sprays shouldn’t be used inside the microwave, as their potentially toxic residues can linger on the surfaces and get into your food. Natural cleansing and disinfecting a microwave is a quick and safe process that one can undertake with a few common kitchen ingredients listed above.
